The word Vajra has also contributed behind the name Bajrangbali. In Sanskrit there is a word vajra or vajram which means lightning, weapon of Indra, diamond or steel. From this the word 'Vajra' of Hindi has been formed. The thunderbolt that Indra had was made from the bones of Maharishi Dadhichi. Hanuman was the son of Vanararaj Kesari and Anjani. Kesari was blessed by the sages to be a very powerful and serviceable child. That is why the body of Hanuman was as hard as iron. That is why he came to be called Vajrang. Being extremely powerful, the word Bali was added to Vajrang and his name became Vajrangbali, which became Bajrangbali in colloquial language.
